The Best Cafes in Colwyn Bay

01 August 2024

Considering it’s relatively small size, it is quite remarkable that there are so many highly regarded cafes in Colwyn Bay offering everything from hearty breakfasts and light lunches, to tasty afternoon teas and soothing coffees.

To help you route out the right Colwyn Bay café for you, we’ve put together a list highlighting the very best cafes in Colwyn Bay to take into consideration the next time you are visiting this charming seaside town.

What we haven’t done is rank the cafes in order of performance. This is simply because there really isn’t much to separate many of these venues. Additionally, it will always come down to choice when deciding which Colwyn Bay Café is right for you. Our list therefore contains as wide a variety of cafes as possible, with modern coffee specialists mixed together with traditional British eateries and cafes with spectacular sea views. Without further ado, let’s get to the list…

Haus Coffee

Haus Coffee was a welcome addition to the Colwyn Bay café scene when it first opened its doors in 2018 as it brought exceptional specialty coffees to the vibrant seaside town. Haus serves the produce of specialist Liverpool based coffee roasters ‘Neighbourhood Coffee’ which will no doubt be appreciated by the coffee aficionados amongst you.

Apart from its black nectar, Haus Coffee also serves a breakfast and brunch menu until 14:30 each afternoon. You can choose from filling full English breakfasts, sensational sandwiches, soups and daily specials made up of the likes of smashed avocado on toast, French toast and seasonal items such as their highly anticipated ‘Christmas Bap’,

This is in addition to a fine selection of freshly baked cakes and other sweet treats which can be enjoyed in a café which offers a very welcoming ambience. The décor is also in keeping with the venue's trendy vibes, with an industrial mix of dark woods and exposed bricks. Regardless of your preferences, Haus Coffee is a great place to spend a couple of hours.

Caffi Colwyn

Haus has a very tough job on its hands to outperform Caffi Colwyn which offers a very similar range of breakfasts, lunches and speciality hot drinks in a café which also has a similarly modern aesthetic. However, this time we are swapping out Neighbourhood Coffee for Heartland Coffee, and Penrhyn Road for Abergele Road.

There really isn’t much to separate these two cafes. As with Haus, at Caffi Colwyn you know that no matter what option you choose from the menu it is going to taste good. The venue has teamed up with the likes of Incredible Edibles Colwyn Bay, utilising their fresh produce to craft a fantastic range of meal options.

All members of the family will be warmly welcomed at Caffi Colwyn which offers a dedicated kids menu alongside Scoops Ice Cream for the furry members of your household.

Flat White Café

Returning to Penrhyn Road now we have the neighbour of Haus Coffee, Flat White Café. When it comes to choosing between the two neighbouring cafes it really isn’t an easy choice with both offering an excellent selection of breakfasts, lunches and hot drinks. Both cafe’s even offer a range of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options, so there isn’t any way of separating the two here either.

Perhaps the largest difference between the two options simply has to come down to the choice of décor. Whilst Haus Coffee is all about the modern industrial look, Flat White Café instead goes with a more glamorous aesthetic filled with botanicals and lavish wall decorations.

However, you may have the decision made for you when Flat White Café starts to offer some of its seasonal offerings including its refreshing coconut water iced americano during the summer and Christmas loaded fries with dipping gravy during the festival season.

Coast Cafe & Gift Shop

If you prefer to dine in a Colwyn Bay café with a sea view, then we’d recommend making the trip to Coast Café & Gift Shop which is located right on the Colwyn Bay Promenade. This is far more of a traditional British café option which is more about tea than it is about coffee.

You can choose from a wide range of sandwiches, full English breakfasts, breakfast baps, filling lunch options and sensational cakes and pastries to complete every meal with. Whilst coffee is available, this is more of a venue that relies on the quality of its tea and offers a very reasonably priced Afternoon Tea package.

To complete the experience, you can also have a look around their gift shop which offers a selection of trendy home décor items and general knick-knacks.

Blod’s Coffee Corner

With the catchy tagline of “breakfast of the day, best in the bay”, Blod’s Coffee Corner is all about great food at an affordable price.

Unlike other cafes featured on this list, Blod’s Coffee Corner is far more of a traditional British café with a menu consisting of national classics such as fried English breakfasts, fish & chips, shepherds pie and hearty roast dinners.

Food is served until 14:30 each afternoon but there isn’t any obvious attempt to provide meal options which are what you would consider to be healthy. This is all about pure indulgence and as confirmed by the interior styling, this is an eatery which is far more tailored towards the slightly older generations.
