Guide to Carp Fishing in North Wales

23 October 2024

Irrespective of whether you are an experienced angler or just starting out, there are plenty of excellent opportunities for carp fishing in North Wales with a plethora of lakes, reservoirs and fisheries to choose from in the area.

Many of the top locations for carp fishing in North Wales are located within easy driving reach of Bryn Defaid Holiday Park, making it the ideal location for anyone who is looking to take a relaxing fishing holiday.

To help you find the right places to go, we’d thought we put together a list of the best places for carp fishing in North Wales so that you can arrive for your next getaway with a clear picture of where you are going to be spending your days. Let's kick off with one that is right on our holiday park doorstep…

1. Pant Glas Fisheries (Llanasa, Flintshire)

The Pant Glas Fishery in Llanasa is located less than a 30 minute drive away from Bryn Defaid Holiday Park in a quiet rural setting just outside Llanasa.

There are three well stocked lakes on-site, with the Specimen Lake in particular being ideal for carp anglers who are looking to catch fish of up to 30 pounds.

Facilities on-site include a cafe in addition to a tackle and bait shop. Parking is also available close to the lakes, so you won’t have to walk too far with all of your equipment.

2. Llyn Derwen Fisheries (Ruthin, Denbighshire)

Another great place for carp fishing in North Wales that is within an hours drive from our resort is the Llyn Derwen Fishery near Ruthin.

Here you will find a 7 acre lake which is well stocked with a variety of species including carp weighing up to 35 pounds. Other species available in the lake include roach, perch and tench.

The Llyn Derwen Fishery is known for its peaceful atmosphere and ample facilities which, as with Pant Glas Fishery, include a tackle and bait shop and car park which is positioned close to the fishing lake.

3. Gweryd Lakes Fishery (Mold, Flintshire)

Another fishery which is located less than an hour away from Bryn Defaid Holiday Park is Gweryd Lakes Fishery just outside the market town of Mold in Flintshire. Gweryd Lakes is very well regarded by local fishing experts and set amidst the beautiful countryside not too far away from Moel Famau.

The main lake on-site is perfect for carp anglers, with a peaceful setting and carp weighing up to 30 pounds on offer. Other species in the lake include catfish, bream and trench. Facilities on-site are also of the highest order, with a tackle shop and cafe for refreshments.

4. Llyn Y Gors (Menai Bridge, Anglesey)

Llyn Y Gors Fishery is one of the most popular locations for carp fishing in North Wales. There are multiple lakes here designed to cater for varying skill and experience levels. The specimen lake is better suited to more experienced anglers and is home to large carp weighing over 30 pounds. The pleasure lake meanwhile is better suited to beginners yet still contains ample prized catches.

The facilities on-site are what really make this fishery stand out, with an on-site shop offering tackle hire, bait and many other essentials. It also has pegs which are designed for all types of angler.

However, it is this popularity which is perhaps the cause of the biggest drawback at Llyn Y Gors with the fishery being perhaps not quite as tranquil and relaxing as other locations recommended on this list.

5. Chirk Fishery (Chirk, Wrexham)

If you like your fisheries with a touch of history, then you’ll love Chirk Fishery which is located on the grounds of the Chirk Castle estate.

Chirk Fishery is known for being a fantastic coarse fishing location, but its lakes are also filled with slightly more desirable species including some impressive carp weighing up to 30 pounds. You’ll also find tench, beam and roach available in the lake which is closed on Sundays and all Bank Holidays.

You’ll find ample parking, pegs close to the parking area and a small fishing lodge. Once you have had your fill of fishing, then you may want to pay a visit to Chirk Castle which has an excellent on-site cafe if you are looking to replenish your energy levels.
