Read on to learn more about Colwyn Bay watersports if you are keen to try your hand at these activities during your next visit to Bryn Defaid Holiday Park.
Head to the Beach
Located less than four miles away from our countryside retreat is Porth Eirias where the vast majority of Colwyn Bay water sport activities take place. This is the ultimate seaside holiday destination with soft golden sands and water quality which has been classified as “excellent” in a recent assessment.
With plenty of parking available along the promenade and in the Porth Eirias car park, this is the ideal spot from which to begin your Colwyn Bay Watersports journey.
Jet Ski Training
Porth Eirias is home to the Colwyn Jetski Club which has an unprecedented seven fully qualified RYA PWC trainers on hand who can teach you everything you need to know about jet skiing in the event that you choose to make this a personal pastime.
The trainers will bestow their first hand experience of navigating the waters at Colwyn Bay in addition to offering a personal watercraft course which has been designed to suit those with no prior experience of jet skiing. Increasingly, a RYA certificate is required before taking the UK seas on a jet ski. The course to obtain this qualification tends to last for a full day and costs in the region of £170.
Unfortunately, the Colwyn Jetski Club is not able to hire out jet skis to learners. However, if you are keen to try out one of the machines on a training course without first purchasing the very expensive equipment, then the nearest training centre can be found in Wallasey on the Wirral. This is located roughly a 1 hour drive away from Bryn Defaid Holiday Park but is well worth the journey if you are to avoid getting involved in an activity that you ultimately find isn’t right for you.
Becoming a Member
If you find that you like jet skiing and go on to purchase your very own machine, then the Colwyn Jetski Club is the perfect group to join given its close proximity to your North Wales holiday home.
When you become a member of the Colwyn Jetski club you will benefit from invaluable free assisted tractor launch and recovery in addition to having experts on hand to offer guidance as you start to undertake the activity under your own steam for the first time. Annual membership costs £150 per year, but is well worth the investment.
Other Watersports in Colwyn Bay
Jet Skiing is not the only popular water sport in Colwyn Bay, with plenty of adrenaline junkies also trying their hand at surfing, kayaking, canoeing and wild swimming at the venue.
You can purchase all the equipment that you need for these activities from Môr, a watersports based shop which is attached to the popular Bryn Williams Restaurant. Alongside kayaks and surfboards, Môr also sells personal equipment such as life jackets and dry suits. You can even purchase one of the popular Dry Robes from here to ensure that you don’t get too cold after exiting the water.
Facilities
Irrespective of which Colwyn Bay watersports activity you opt to try, you will find that the Porth Eirias centre is the ideal spot around which to base yourself.
With the stunning beach, plenty of parking spaces and excellent facilities including the award winning Bryn Williams restaurant, you will have everything you need for a grand day out on the North Wales coastline.
There is even occasionally a mobile wood fired sauna stationed near Porth Eirias which is the ideal place to dry out after spending some time in the far from tepid waters.
