Best Shops in Colwyn Bay

11 July 2024

Colwyn Bay is about far more than just its iconic beach, with the town also being home to a range of unique local traders each of which has something very bespoke to offer. From antiques and model railway traders, to art galleries and fancy women's clothing stores; Colwyn Bay has something for everyone.

In no particular order, we’ve put together a list of five of the best shops in Colwyn Bay. We’ve tried to include as wide a variety of stores as possible so that we can highlight something that will appeal to as wide a variety of shopaholic as possible. Without further delay, let’s get right to it…

Bay Gallery

The Bay View Gallery is a community led art gallery which aims to promote the work of local artists. Run as a charity, it is run by local volunteers and provides creative folk from across the Colwyn Bay region to display and sell their works.

Situated in the popular BayView Shopping Centre, the Bay View Gallery is open from 10am till 4pm daily with the exception of Sunday. In addition to displaying local creations, the Bay View gallery also runs weekly art classes and workshops to encourage the development of future art proteges. Make sure that you get in touch with the team on-site if you are interested in joining one of these sessions by contacting them via Instagram

The Mayfair

Open since 1942, The Mayfair is the perfect shop for all dedicated followers of fashion. Spread over three floors of a grand Victorian building on Conway Road, The Mayfair offers ladies fashion labels in sizes 8-20.

Here, you will find brands such as Joseph Ribkoff, Oui & Oliver Phillips with everything from casual daywear to formal wedding outfits. The building retains many of its original Victorian features including the stained glass windows and distinctive oak staircase. All in all, the building is every bit as sophisticated as the brands that are on offer inside.

The Mayfair has been in the ownership of the same family now for over 40 years and the staff who are on hand are incredibly knowledgeable about the clothing that is on offer. It is well worth a visit for any ladies who are in the market for something a little bit special.

Coast Antiques

If you are a fan of retro styling and appreciate things which have a bit of history to them, then you’ll love Coast Antiques. Situated on Abergele road, Coast Antiques sells authentic antique furniture alongside quality reproductions which are perfect for those who are looking to create a retro style in their Colwyn Bay holiday home without the astronomical price tag.

As with any antique stores, it really is luck of the draw when it comes to finding something that is right for your holiday home. However, Coast Antiques tends to have a wide range of stock at all times made up of bedroom and dining furniture, feature chairs, mirrors and much more besides.  It’s definitely worth a visit if you are looking for fancy furnishings or decorative accessories to add to your new holiday home.

Clwyd Models & Hobbies

The railway or model car enthusiast in your family will be in their element when they pay a visit to Colwyn Bay’s Clwyd Models & Hobbies shop.

Located on Abergele Road, make sure that you keep your eyes peeled on your first venture to the store as it is quite small and easy to miss. However, once you are inside you will find that it is a real Aladdin’s cave of collectibles with model trains, cars and planes and even books providing details about the model of the vehicle you are interested in purchasing.

As with Coast Antiques, it is luck of the draw when it comes to whether or not you will find a model that is of interest to you. However, it is well worth a visit for all diecast enthusiasts.

Natural Choice

All of our holiday homes for sale in Colwyn Bay’s Bryn Defaid Holiday Park come with self catering amenities such as ovens, hobs, microwaves and fridge freezers. That means that all you have to do once you move in is stock up on the essentials and if you are committed to only eating healthy and natural foods, there is nowhere better than The Natural Choice.

This health store is actually located just outside Colwyn Bay in Rhos-on-Sea, but is still little over a mile further down the road than many of the aforementioned Colwyn Bay shops. It is a family run business which offers customers everything from organic fruit & veg, to supplements and natural skin care remedies.

The store was first opened in 2001 by Jo and Johnny Carpenter who are passionate about enjoying healthy food and a healthy lifestyle. During a period where an increasingly large percentage of the local population have started to place a greater emphasis on the importance of consuming natural products, the store has thrived and been very much at the forefront of this movement.
